Derek Remes

Univ.-Prof. Dr. phil. Derek K. Remes od 2024 roku pełni funkcję profesora teorii muzyki na Uniwersytecie Technicznym w Dortmundzie (TU Dortmund) w Niemczech. Urodzony w USA w 1986 roku, studiował kompozycję (BM) oraz muzykę filmową (BM) w Berklee College of Music, które ukończył z wyróżnieniem (summa cum laude) w 2010 roku.

W latach 2012–2017 kontynuował edukację w Eastman School of Music, studiując pedagogikę teorii muzyki (MA) oraz grę na organach (MM). Za swoje wybitne umiejętności wykonawcze otrzymał tam prestiżowy tytuł Performer’s Certificate.

Kariera w Europie

• 2017: Przeprowadzka do Niemiec w celu rozpoczęcia studiów doktoranckich pod kierunkiem Felixa Diergartena na Wyższej Szkole Muzycznej we Fryburgu (Freiburg University of Music), gdzie pracował również jako wykładowca (Lehrbeauftragter).
• 2019: Objęcie stanowiska pełnoetatowego docenta na Uniwersytecie Nauk Stosowanych i Sztuki w Lucernie (Szwajcaria).
• 2020: Obrona pracy doktorskiej dotyczącej pedagogiki kompozytorskiej J.S. Bacha (summa cum laude). Rozprawa ta została uhonorowana nagrodą Dissertation Award przyznawaną przez Society for Music Theory.

Działalność naukowa i redakcyjna

Prof. dr Remes od 2019 roku jest współredaktorem czasopisma „Music Theory and Analysis”, a wcześniej pełnił funkcję redaktora w „GMTH-Proceedings”. Jego prace badawcze ukazywały się w licznych periodykach naukowych, a on sam prowadził wykłady w Chinach, Europie oraz Stanach Zjednoczonych.
